Various veterans benefits may be available to the survivors of an eligible deceased veteran. They may consist of burial allowance and monthly survivor benefits. Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey will carefully file for all burial allowances and veterans insurance for which the deceased veteran may be eligible. Application for survivor benefits can be arranged through the Veterans Affairs Regional Office in your area. Following is the location and phone number in Waco:

Veterans Benefits Include:
- Funeral and cemetery allowance if applicable.
- A United States Flag
- Marker memorialization (excluding installation)
- Dependency and Indemnity Compensation, an award paid to widow and minor children of a veteran who dies in military service or as a result of a disability incurred in such service
- Death Pension. Paid to eligible widows and dependents of a wartime veteran who died from disabilities not related to his military service
All burial benefits can be applied for up to 2 years following the death of the veteran.
All survivor benefits should be applied for through your local Veterans Affairs Regional Office as soon as possible after the death.
All benefits received in the name of the deceased veteran following the death must be returned to the local Veterans Affairs Regional Office. Proper evaluation of eligibility for funds will be determined in behalf of the survivors. Contact your local office for application.
Veterans benefits have been extended to those who served in the Merchant Marines during wartime and were honorably discharged. To qualify, contact the local Veterans Affairs Regional Office (254) 299-9380, for an application. Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey then can apply for benefits on behalf of the beneficiary when the honorable discharge is received.
The following documentation will be required for appropriate application of benefits:
- Certified copy of veteran's military discharge or DD Form 2142
- Original or certified copy of marriage certificate
- Certified copy of death certificate
- Original or certified copy of birth certificates of children under 18, or older if attending school or helpless before 18th birthday
- If there were previous marriages on either side, original or certified copy of divorce decree or death certificate
- VA claim number if one has been issued
- VA insurance policy or number
- Social Security numbers of veteran, spouse, and children, and original or current award letter, statement of other pension, annuity, etc.
- Funeral and/or cemetery property bills (only paid bills accepted)
Note: if widow is not eligible because of excessive income, children would not be eligible either.
